Using pressed wood as his canvas Spanish artist PEJAC presents his latest creations part of The “Redemption” series.
After discovering his recent intervention with his unique works made during his 2 weeks residency in Rijeka (more here), the artist returns with The “Redemption” Series. Only using pencil and ink on a material made of wood pieces pressed together the artist succeeds in delivering the illusion of perspective.
Explaining the redemption theme and the choice of wooden panels, PEJAC says ”The beauty of the pressed wood seems to hide the arrogance of man in its relation with nature. These panels have some sort of aesthetic warmth but at the same time a sense of devastation, making it very contradictory, which directly refers to my way of understanding art.
The series also address environmental issues, a recurring subject in his work. ”Expressing myself on thousands of small pieces of wood feels like “tattooing” on the stripped skins of trees. Each drawing in this Redemption series are tribute to nature. Any other subject would have been frivolous.” he says.
