After touring the globe and beautifying the streets of eight different cities, contemporary art initiative POW! WOW! took over its hometown in Oahu, Hawaii for its 2017 edition.
It took Telmo and Miel around 5 days to complete their production under the Hawaiian sunshine.
Using a grid system that they developed a while ago allows the artistic duo not to draw straight lines onto the wall. This is when the fun begins when there are no limits to their inspiration, anything works with their system.
‘That became a playful part in our process where we can just draw funny stuff’ they say. One example was a crab with abs and muscles that Telmo once drew for a grid somewhere around the globe. The idea kinda stuck with them and Telmo made a realistic sketch of the concept during one of their travels. The sketch showed that realistic muscles go very well with a crabby armour. Being in Hawaii totally fitted the surrounding.
Coincidentally Telmo & Miel painted their mural across a UFC gym so the work fitted the area even better than expected.
