Artist duo Telmo Miel have jusst created this mural titled: ‘Portrait of a girl in blue and pink’ or as titled by the people of Haarlem ‘Mona Gaga’.The artists were invited to paint a mural in Haarlem, Holland. During a visit (related to the project) to the Frans Hals museum, they heard the director speak about taking the classic into modern age by shining a different light on it. Showing similarities it shares in modern art, by also implementing modern pieces into an exhibition.
‘We had our hearts set on paying hommage to a classic painter from Haarlem. After some research we decided to give our twist to a classic (well known) piece by Johannes Verspronck (1641) called ‘Portrait of a girl in blue’’ they say.
Such an extravagant adult dress, worn by a small girl. Very interesting image. The extravagance was intriguing, a certain style similar to some today looking at pop culture. They were looking to combine this beautiful dress with an outspoken look of the modern times. And so they came to this pinkish bow tie wearing figure which turned out to be a ‘lady gaga’ look. (I really didn’t know, but i thought it looked awesome..)
Extravagance from 2 ages formed this weird but fun character, hopefully showing that a classic is always current.
