This September 10th, the international public art festival FestiWallreturns to Ragusa, for its fourth consecutive year. The whole town will be transformed into a buzzing open air gallery at the centre of which there will be the artists involved and the walls of the northern quarter of Ragusa.
This year FestiWallwill offer a wider programme including graffiti and exhibitions by internationally acclaimed artists as well as exciting events such as concerts, dj sets, workshops, talks and exhibitions.
The festival will continue in its discovery of the best international street art around and then make it available to the public to enjoy.
Six different artists will produce six new art pieces which will become part of the collection previously created in other areas of Ragusa. Therefore, the community will be gifted with more street art pieces which allow a vital process of urban regeneration as well as a stronger involvement of the public in the urban spaces they live in.
For this edition the featuring artists are Hense(USA),Mohamed L’Ghacham (ES/MA),Alexey Luka (RU), Telmo Miel(NL), Pastel (ARG),Dimitris Taxis(GRE). Despite their practice being very different, they all share a deep interest in their own land, in its history and landscapes as well as an awareness about the impact that their work can have on it.
Hyperrealism, figurativism, abstract art, references to both last century’s art and avant-garde and current affairs are just some of the topics that the artists will touch upon in their pieces.
They will all be working in the area of town that starts in viale Europa and stretches all the way to viale dei Platani. This is the industrial quarter of Ragusa, highly populated but lacking in public spaces where to socialise.
Here’s a visual recap of Instagrafite last year’s coverage of the Festival. Enjoy!
