The installation untitled ‘The Key in the Hand’ consists of thousands of keys suspended on web-like red yarn where two barks are floating in the center of the pavilion. The hectic webs take over the entire gallery!
Her art performance is creative and invites the audience to immerse in this unique and poetic world.
Born in Osaka, she moved from Japan to Germany in 1997, to study under the performance art maven Marina Abramović. Shiota’s oeuvre contains various art performances and installations, in which she uses various everyday objects such as beds, windows, dresses, shoes and suitcases. She explores the relationships between past and present, living and dying, and memories of people implanted into objects. To these she adds intricate, web-like threads of black and red.
