After weeks of speculations (covered here) and message boards buzzing with a possible exhibition by the renowned artist Banksy the park finally opened its doors for the press preview earlier today in the resort town of Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset, England, and will be a host of a 5 week group show.
Entitled ‘Dismaland’, it mocks the idea of seaside resorts brimming with low value theme parks.
”Dismal Land – a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism. Are you looking for an alternative to the sugar-coated tedium of the average family day out? Or just somewhere a lot cheaper? Then this is the place for you. Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus…”
Located inside the Tropicana, a derelict lido site that once contained an outdoor swimming pool, the event features works from international artists including Paul Insect & BAST (UK/USA), Michael Beitz (USA), Jani Leinonen (Finland), Axel Void (USA), Banksy (UK), Julie Burchill (UK), Ronit Baranga (Israel) and many more.
